Our Sustainability Mission

Starting 2023, we initiated a mission to boost sustainability in our venue, given the hotel industry's contribution to global carbon emissions.

After an emissions assessment by Carbon Neutral Britain, we now track our energy use monthly and monitor water use, laundry, single-use plastics, food waste, and recycling. We aim to significantly improve our sustainability this year and encourage our members, guests, and visitors to join us in our quest.

Relax in the Beauty Salon

We have an extensive in-salon range of luxury Elemis spa treatments, which use touch as a powerful diagnostic tool and harness a combination of ancient and modern massage techniques from around the world. We also offer luxury pedicures and manicures using CND SHELLAC which lasts 2-3 weeks, giving the most professional of finishes. We take a holistic approach to beauty and all our treatments are designed to nurture body and mind.

Healthy Eating

Amongst our wider menu lies a healthy selection carefully created by our Head Chef, Dean, to fuel your inner athlete and nurture your gut. Looking after your gut health can have a profound effect on your immune system, your energy levels and your mental health. Your gut is referred to as your second brain, ‘your gut feeling’, hop onto this podcast to find out more.

Connect with Nature

Whether alone, with your partner, or the family, a walk in the woods is a great way to recharge. The wonderful Buchan Park is on our doorstep and offers a number of routes taking in the impressive Douster Pond, roughly 3km or an hour’s walk.

Our on-site Meditation Lawn, set in a lovely glade of oak trees within 100m of the hotel, is a tranquil space to disconnect and just breathe*. Ten minutes of conscious breathing a day has been shown to have a great effect on your mind and composure. Our top tip: take your shoes off, get grounded and connect with mother earth by going bare feet on the grass!

* This space doubles as our wedding ceremony lawn so might occasionally be unavailable.

Work Out Under the Trees

Try pushing the sled or flipping the tractor tyre to connect with your inner beast at our Forest Fitness outdoor gym. Studies show that increased exposure to natural light or lumens can improve your mood and sleep, so try our outdoor gym & tennis courts and enjoy the elements, whatever the season.

Don’t forget our two golf courses! Golf after 5pm is free for hotel residents and can be the perfect end to the day. The sunsets across our 150 acres are stunning.

Body Health Check

Our health scanner, BodiTrax, is capable of measuring a whole range of health metrics including your athletic age. The health club team can talk you through your own personal scan along with explaining the results. It is quite an eye opener and great for benchmarking your current health.

The spin studio and fully stocked Technogym cardio and weights facilities are also there for you to use as you please. We also offer a huge range of fitness classes or, to take it to another level, book a personal training session with one of our highly qualified trainers.

Hot & Cold Therapy

It is unbelievable how good a hot and cold routine can be for your body. Benefits include relaxed muscles, cardiovascular health, improved skin and much more. Enjoy a steam or sauna in our modern facilities, with some cold showers in between.

Our indoor swimming pool is a great place to unwind or churn out some lengths. If you are swimming as a family please watch out for the no kids under 14 restriction after 5:30 pm.

Towels are available for hotel guests at the health club reception.

Hotel Guest Wellness

A great night’s sleep - Pillow options & Sleep eye masks

Please ask at reception if you would prefer a lighter duvet or a firmer pillow and we will aim to help you improve your sleep. We also offer our scented warming eye masks to help if you are struggling to put the thoughts of today or tomorrow to one side.

We can also recommend great apps that can assist, such as Calm or Headspace. Worth a read is The Science of Sleep by Heather Darwall-Smith and Secrets to A Good Nights Sleep by Stephanie Romiszewski

In-Room Exercise

We understand that some people prefer solitude when training, and can help set up some basic equipment in the comfort of your hotel room. If you would like a couple of dumbbells or a yoga mat for your room please ask at reception and we can arrange this.

Our rainwater harvesting system, on-site composting of all food waste, solar panels, use of recyclables, and phasing out of single-use plastics are just a few examples of how we achieve this.
